Draft A: Exploring an abandoned house

(1) On Saturday, Ravi and I climbed the hill to the abandoned house. (2) The gate hung from one hinge, so we squeezed past. (3) Inside, the smell of damp paper filled the hallway. (4) Ravi switched on his torch and hurries towards the stairs. (5) At the top, a box of old letters were sitting on a table. (6) The ink on the pages were faded, but the first date was clear. (7) Either Ravi or I were going to read them aloud. (8) Neither the stairs nor the landing were safe to walk on, so we tested each board. (9) Each of the letters were addressed to a girl named Edith.

(10) Suddenly a floorboard cracked and Ravi shouts. (11) We had left our bikes at the gate, so we ran back down the hill. (12) Ravi's mum waits at the bottom, and she drove us home. (13) Later, the story of the letters were all I could think about. (14) That night I decide to write to Edith's family. (15) After a week, Mum helped me find an old address, and I posted the letters.
